Part 1 will help participants gain an understanding of how underachievement looks in the gifted student. Questions to be answered include, what are characteristics of underachievement, what are the types of underachievement, and exploring perfectionism. Part Two will include strategies to reverse underachievement in the gifted student.

Part 2: Strategies to Reverse Underachievement in the Gifted Student
Part of the Underachievement series will present student profiles and strategies that can be applied in order to reverse underachievement in the gifted student. Teachers will apply the strategies to the student profiles, which will help them feel comfortable in creating a plan to reverse underachievement in their classrooms.

Using Portfolios as Assessment Tools for Student Products
Participants will gain an understanding of what makes up a good portfolio to use in the identification process. Each participant will establish the criteria and create a rubric to use when evaluating work in a portfolio. Characteristics and types of giftedness will be reviewed.

Participants will learn how to teach students a successful method of notes taking. This note taking system includes an organization and study tool which will help students review and retain the new learning.

Participants will explore a variety of questioning strategies that can be used in the classroom to provide students with opportunities for advanced-level thinking.

QR codes have a multitude of uses to meet the distinct needs and learning styles of the G/T students in your classroom. Use them to add some variety, capture your students' attention, and promote higher level thinking for your students. Don't tell your administrators . . . BUT they might even be FUN!

Powerful PowerPoint Integration
PowerPoint is an often overused tool requiring very little planning, organization, or creativity. This course will introduce you to two innovative uses of PowerPoint: non-linear and interactive presentations. Learn to create these types of presentation so that you can teach your students how to add some pizzazz to PowerPoint presentations. Participants need only a basic understanding of PowerPoint: how to open PowerPoint, create a slide, save a presentation, and play a slideshow. All other skills will be introduced to you in a step-by-step manner. When you finish this course, you will have two interactive presentations ready to implement in your classroom.

Evaluating Web Sites
The advent of the Internet opened a whole new world of information and is an excellent resource for learning/researching; however, the user must validate the credibility of sites. Anyone can create a website and pose as an authority on any topic. Don’t let your students get caught in an embarrassing situation by relying on a site that does not present accurate information. Instead, learn how one might evaluate a site to determine its credibility; then teach your students to do the same!
